Kiss of Death

Man I am the kiss of death when it comes to the 2008 Playoffs...

I am happy the Cardinals won, just surprised. Man I hate Pittsburg. I will bore you all with a breakdown of the Super Bowl after I've collected my thoughts...

Championship game - AFC

Baltimore vs Pittsburg

Let me begin with I hate Pittsburg. Not the city, but the team...no actually the fans of the team. They get under my skin and although they might be nice people I find their smug "we deserve it" attitudes drive me crazy. I think since I've suffered for so long as a 49er fan, I no longer have that attitude. This must be what it's like to be a Cubs Fan. Anyway, that said...who likes the Ravens? No one but the city of Baltimore cares to see the Ravens do a darn thing.

So give me the Ravens. I pick them for a handful of reasons. First they are a division opponent of the Steelers, meaning they've played twice this year(every team plays the other teams in their divisions twice a season). Guess who won those 2 games...that's right Pittsburg. They were both smashmouth, physical games and the second one was won with a questionable touchdown being rewarded to the Steelers. It is very hard to beat a team 3 times in a season. In fact, I am going to say it has only happened once...Tennessee did it to Jacksonville in 1999 on their way to the Super Bowl. If you know of another please post in comments. Fun fact, Jacksonville only lost 3 games that whole season...

The Ravens bring pressure better than any team in the NFL. Their defense is one of the most amazing things to watch and have gotten them this far with a rookie Quarterback and a no name group of running backs...yes I know McGahee is a well know player but he is a shadow of his former self and is at best their #3 guy. That defense is the best at rattling Pittsburg's Quarterback, Big Ben Roethlisberger.

Lastly, Ravens feel like a team of destiny. Their star linebacker Ray Lewis seems to be willing this team to the Super Bowl. If they go, it will be with a rookie Head Coach and a rookie Quarterback.

Isn't he cute

John sent this asking if I really wanted one...yeah I think I still do...

Championship games - NFC

Well I'm going to throw it against the wall and see what sticks. This has been a crazy year and the fact that we might have two 6 seed teams in the Super Bowl shows how much the league has leveled out. It is no longer a handful of teams controlling the league each year, just get in the playoffs and you can go to the Super Bowl. I remember when having the bye week in the first week of the playoffs meant you had a 75% chance or better of winning the game the following week. Now it seems like a death wish, especially after 3 of the 4 home teams lost.

Eagles vs Cardinals...Man I want to pick the Cardinals. I like the Cardinals, which is a sin since I am a 49er fan and should hate teams from the same Division. But Fantasy football takes that hate away if you play long enough. You begin to root for individuals and not so much worry about the teams...free agency has affected this also. I remember the good old days when players rarely switched teams and you could come to hate the players as much as the colors they wore. That being said, I hate the Seahawks from the Division so I'm not a total lost cause.

So where was I? Oh yeah, I want to pick the Cardinals. Their defense has shut down two very good running teams, Atlanta and Carolina. Carolina was impressive, the most impressive win in the Post Season I think. First they traveled to the East Coast, where they hadn't won all year. Second they moved the ball well and scored often. Third and most important their defense was dominate. They had 6 turnovers and held the #4 running offense to nothing.

So why am I hesitant? Donovan McNabb. Plain and simple, he is willing this team to wins. Their number 1 horse, Westbrook has been close to nonexistant in the playoffs, but McNabb has been lights out. He has a chip the size of Philadelphia on his shoulder since he was benched earlier this season and he's been lights out since then. Their defense has been impressive also, and they pressure the Quarterback like no other team in the NFC. So the final pick, the Eagles. I won't be surprised if Arizona wins, and I am rooting for them but...give me the Eagles(by 10).

I'll post AFC in a few...

Week 2 of playoffs

Give me Tennessee over Baltimore in a close one.
Give me San Diego over Pittsburg in a stunner.
Give me Carolina over Arizona in a blow out(Arizona has lost every game they've played on the east coast this year)
Give me Philadelphia over NY Giants in a close one.

Pickles is old

So Mr Pickles is sick. A weird kind of sick because he's not eating. Anything else I would think, "It's just something mild", but when he's not eating or begging for people food, something must be wrong. We adopted him about 8 months ago, and we were told he was 5. I also was told that he was just given a checkup by the previous owners at a Vet close to where I live. So today when I decided to take him in to a vet, I decided to try them first. I got luck and they were able to match him with his old records. His original name was Shea and although I'd never heard that as a name for a pet, ours was #4. I took him in and they told me that he was 8 years, 8 months old. Wow my kitty went from a middle age to senior citizen in a 2 minute conversation. We can change how we deal with him but Brick, our 15 lb kitten, doesn't understand he's dealing with an old grumpy bastard. Although now that I think about it, he probably does and that's why he's always riding Pickles through the house...
